It is with great honour to compile this Research Book Series 2022 on halal issues in Malaysia. I would like to thank the Research and Development of Universiti Malaysia Pahang and Penerbit UMP for their effort in initiating the idea to publish this book. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the researchers in their respective areas as they share their research findings about halal issues in the country - Malaysia. Thank you for the fruitful information and insights on halal matters that the researchers have shared in the research book. I hope that writing issues concerning halal will continue, to ensure Muslim consumers, in particular, are aware of halal products and understand that products need to meet the requirements laid by shariah law to ensure their hygiene, quality and safety before consuming them. For non-Muslims, the information in this book may promote healthy eating and understand safe to consume products among them. Let us be halal literate!

THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ADVERTISING ON MUSLIM CONSUMERS' PURCHASES: A FOCUS ON HALAL ISSUES IN MALAYSIA

The study examines issues related to the impact of social media advertising among Muslim consumers by paying

particular attention to halal products. This issue concerns Muslim consumers since many products that are available in the country are as labelled halal, as they watch the advertisements in the social media. Therefore, the study is carried out to examine the difference in the perceived honesty of the halal products advertised on social media which affects consumers across ages. It also attempts to identify the difference in purchasing intention of halal products among consumers via social media advertisements across family incomes. Finally, it explores whether there is a difference in purchasing intention of halal products across consumers' education levels after watching social media advertisements. The data of the study were collected using a survey to gauge opinions about the stated issues among 158 Muslim consumers in Malaysia. Data from the analysis showed no significant differences in the perceived honesty of obtaining information about halal products through social media advertising that affect consumers across ages. Also, evidence was insufficient to confirm a difference in Muslim consumers' purchasing intention for halal products across family incomes on social media advertisements. Last but not least, the study found no difference in Muslim consumers' purchasing intention of buying halal products after watching social media advertising related to their levels of education. This study implies that Muslim consumers still lack awareness of buying halal products. Such situation calls for the need to educate them better to be more effective consumers.

MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS OF HALALPRENEURSHIP IN PENETRATING HALAL INDUSTRY

Halalpreneurship concept is based on Islamic law for individuals conducting entrepreneurial activities in the global halal industry. Islamic values were integrated to transform the Muslim and non-Muslim entrepreneurs in the Halal industry. This chapter explores motivational factors that support halalpreneurship in the halal industry. Such understanding and knowledge about halalpreneurship will expose the motivational factors in numerous sectors of the global halal industry for the halalpreneurs to penetrate the halal industry. The chapter employs a content analysis methodology by reviewing research papers, books, journals, and articles to strive for the objectives. PENGGUNAAN TEKNOLOGI STUNNING DALAM SEMBELIHAN HALAL DI MALAYSIA MENURUT PERSPEKTIF MAQASID SYARIAH

Perkembangan teknologi turut memberi kesan kepada industri pengeluaran daging halal. Antara teknologi yang digunakan dalam sembelihan halal pada hari ini ialah stunning. Terdapat pelbagai perbincangan berkaitan penggunaan teknologi ini termasuklah dari sudut keharusannya pada pandangan syarak. Walaupun terdapat sedikit perbezaan pendekatan dalam membenarkan penggunaannya dalam industri halal, di Malaysia, terdapat pandangan hukum dan fatwa yang mengharuskan penggunaannya jika memenuhi syarat-syarat yang telah ditetapkan. Sehubungan dengan itu, tulisan ini dikemuka untuk menjelaskan kedudukan penggunaan stunning dari perspektif maqasid syariah. Fokus perbincangan ialah penilaian terhadap penggunaannya sama ada lebih menepati maslahah penjagaan daruriyyat al-khams atau sebaliknya. Tulisan ini berdasarkan kajian yang menggunakan kaedah kualitatif. Pengumpulan dan analisis data dibuat menggunakan pendekatan analisis dokumen. Analisis menunjukkan sembelihan yang tidak menggunakan teknik stunning lebih menepati maslahah dalam menjaga daruriyyat al-khams khususnya dalam penjagaan agama, nyawa dan harta.

KEUPAYAAN MENGUASAI PENGGUNAAN TEKNOLOGI SISTEM MYEHALAL

Sistem MYeHALAL dibangunkan bagi memberi kemudahan kepada permohonan pensijilan halal di Malaysia. Transformasi permohonan pensijilan halal secara manual kepada teknologi secara dalam talian bermatlamat untuk menyelaraskan proses agar menjadi lebih teratur, berpusat dan berkesan selari dengan peralihan semasa kepada dunia digital. Namun begitu, peralihan ini menimbulkan pelbagai isu dan tanggapan negatif daripada sebilangan pemohon. Justeru, artikel ini adalah bagi membincangkan halangan yang dihadapi oleh pemohon halal dalam penggunaan sistem MYeHALAL dan faktor yang menentukan keupayaan menguasai penggunaan teknologi sistem permohonan halal secara dalam talian. Dengan bersandarkan Actor Network Theory iaitu teori yang menganalisis kedua-dua elemen teknikal (teknologi) dan sosial (manusia) secara sama rata menerusi proses penterjemahan sebagai rangka, teknik temu bual separa berstruktur ke atas 14 orang pemohon halal serta tiga pegawai daripada JAKIM dan JAIM telah dijalankan. Kajian mendapati terdapat beberapa halangan yang dihadapi oleh pemohon halal dalam penggunaan sistem MYeHALAL. Ia merangkumi dua halangan utama iaitu masalah berkisar sistem itu sendiri dan kelemahan pengguna sistem. Berdasarkan dapatan halangan ini, kajian telah dapat mengenal pasti beberapa aktor atau faktor yang menentukan keupayaan dalam menguasai penggunaan teknologi MYeHALAL sebagai sistem permohonan halal secara dalam talian. Ia melibatkan beberapa faktor iaitu ilmu pengetahuan, kemahiran, pengalaman, operasi penyelenggaraan dan kebolehcapaian sistem. Realitinya, terdapat banyak faktor yang menyumbang atau menghalang kejayaan sesuatu sistem atau aplikasi yang dibangunkan. Memperkasakan penggunaan sistem secara dalam talian tidak semata-mata bergantung kepada prestasi sistem MYeHALAL, namun ia perlu dilihat secara menyeluruh merangkumi faktor lain yang turut memberi kesan berbeza kepada penggunaan sistem secara keseluruhannya.

Persoalan hukum halal-haram dalam aspek pemakanan halal adalah di antara perkara yang begitu ditekankan oleh syariah Islam kerana ia berkaitan dengan prinsip menjaga salah satu kepentingan asas kehidupan manusia iaitu prinsip menjaga nyawa seseorang. Sehubungan itu, aspek pemakanan halal yang terkandung maknanya dalam kategori al-tayyibat bukan sahaja baik untuk kebaikan dan kesihatan diri manusia, malah pemakanan halal sebenarnya adalah suatu elemen penting dalam proses pembentukan akhlak dan kebersihan hati seseorang. Dalam konteks ini, penulisan ini menjelaskan aspek pemakanan halal dan hubungannya dalam pembentukan keperibadian seseorang dari sudut pemakanan halal menurut maqasid syariah, pemakanan halal dan aspek pembersihan jiwa serta tanggungjawab pemeliharaan diri dari makanan haram dan syubhat. Semua elemen yang dijelaskan dalam penulisan ini merupakan aspek-aspek yang perlu diberi perhatian oleh seseorang Muslim dalam rangka pembentukan keperibadian diri yang luhur agar dia menjadi seorang Muslim yang menghayati nilai- nilai ajaran Islam dan berpegang kepada hukum halal dan haram secara konsisten khususnya dalam aspek pemakanan halal.

The market for certified Halal products is expanding rapidly, both domestically and internationally, with Malaysia emerging as the world's leader and reference point. As the forefront of the global Halal fraternity thanks to the tireless efforts of the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), Malaysia has been widely regarded as the gold standard across the Islamic world, which is a critical component in promoting the Halal industry to the rest of the world. Thus, the goal of this study is to investigate the issues and way forward for Malaysian halal pharmaceutical market. The method of this study is through literature review analysis. Pharmaceutical companies should indeed focus on product innovation in addition to standards. For the time being, they are primarily focused on developing halal alternatives for existing medications. Future growth will be dependent on thinking "halal first" and developing products for the Muslim consumers.

Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) is a statutory body vested with the power to regulate and oversee corporate and business affairs in Malaysia. Formed in 2002, SSM fulfils its function as the leading authority for improving corporate governance by ensuring compliance with business registration and corporate legislation through comprehensive enforcement and monitoring activities in order to maintain positive developments in the nation's corporate and business sectors. Therefore, this study aims to develop an online website called Inventory Management System to manage the inventory system of SSM companies. The objective is to provide functions that make managing products in the store more effective. Inventory management includes monitoring and supervising purchases from suppliers and consumers, managing inventory, controlling the quantity of goods
for sale, and fulfilling orders, all of which are part of the supply chain. The scopes of the project are to track inventory, perform inventory maintenance, update inventory based on sales information, and generate sales and inventory reports on a daily or weekly basis. Inventory management systems are essential for businesses that purchase consumer products to maintain quality control. If inventory is not tracked, online businesses may be out of stock on key products. The powerful inventory management system can help in automatically tracking large items and reducing errors

Self-quarantine is essential for persons returning from overseas or red zone locations. It is critical that the self-quarantine be completed without incident, since this might result in the selfquarantine individual becoming a carrier of COVID-19 in the community. The majority of nations worldwide have developed a variety of COVID-19 monitoring and tracing systems in order to navigate and address this issue. However, some constraints and limitations may result in deliberate non-adherence. Individuals who have been quarantined may continue to roam within the community by detaching their wristbands or by submitting a false
contact status in the tracing application. This article proposes a novel configuration for an obligatory self-quarantine system. It will facilitate communication between wearable and contact tracing technologies, ensuring that authorities maintain complete control over the system. The suggested system's hardware in the wearable device is low-cost, lightweight, and safe for the next user after the quarantine period is complete. The software (both software and database) that connects the quarantine user to the normal user makes use of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) reporting and flagging techniques.

The E-Learning system is one of the standard tools widely used to improve student performance and the continuous intention to use e-learning in higher education. A massive e-learning system is used at the higher education level, such as Moodle, MOOC and elearning systems, enhancing students’ performance. This concept paper presents a systematic review of potential e-learning systems used effectively and with continuous intention to improve students’ performance. The comparison was made based on the literature review of the essential factors used for e-learning purposes. PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS OF THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK UNDER UNCERTAINTY OF THE DISEASE SPREADING

COVID-19 pandemic was identified in Wuhan, China in 2019 and has spread at a tremendous rate affecting all countries over the
world. Understanding the spreading disease is crucial; hence, the dynamic behaviour of the disease can be predicted. This paper is aimed to model the COVID-19 outbreak by extending the deterministic susceptible-infected-recovered-death (DSIRD) into a stochastic SIRD (SSIRD) model. Infectious rate parameter of the DSIRD model is perturbed with Brownian motion to reflect the uncertainty of the COVID-19 outbreak. Fourth order stochastic Runge-Kutta (SRK4) method is used to simulate the model. Parameter estimation is estimated using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. The simulated results for three ASEAN countries of Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore indicate that SSIRD model is consistent with the infected COVID-19 data;hence, shows the model is adequate in explaining the behaviour of the infectious disease.

STUDENTS' MOTIVATION AND CHALLENGES IN LEARNING VOCABULARY USING SOCIAL MEDIA DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Social media among young generations can serve as a platform for entertainment and learning. Despite its use to post their status and pictures related to their everyday life, it can be used for education, especially during the pandemic of COVID-19. The current study investigates social media to identify learners' motivation and challenges in using the platform for vocabulary learning. Seventytwo participants were employed in the qualitative study using an open-ended questionnaire. The data gathered using Google form obtained thick descriptions of their motivation and challenges using the platform to learn English vocabulary. Four themes emerged from the responses concerning their motivation. These themes are (1) the availability of useful features to ease understanding, (2) communication across boundaries and the use of English, (3) pleasurable experience provided, and (4) exposure to various sources. Another four themes were formulated regarding the challenges that students faced using social media for learning vocabulary; (1) perceived problems associated with language, (2) social media users' unfavourable feedback and behaviour, (3) issues with an internet connection, and (4) negative effects on the users. The study implied that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, Telegram, Tik Tok and WeChat were able to motivate students to learn vocabulary. However, the main obstacle to use these platforms was internet connection issues. The researchers concluded that such was the effect of learning during the pandemic. Internet access might be limited since household members used the service for learning during the pandemic.

MOBILE-BASED SOCIAL DISTANCING AWARENESS SYSTEM INTEGRATED WITH GPS SENSOR: A CASE STUDY OF UMP STUDENTS

Social distancing is becoming a norm in everyone’s daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic has only started two
years ago, there are not many social distancing awareness systems specifically made for higher education institutions (HEI) students. As many students are required to return to the campus to partake in physical lessons and assessment, social distancing practice is very important to reduce the risk of spreading of the viruses. Social Distancing Awareness System is a mobile application that helps students to increase their social distancing awareness. The objective of this research is to alert users to practise social distancing by developing a proposed system called mobile application for social distancing awareness. The proposed system applies the agile model of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as the methodology for this work. The proposed system will detect nearby devices using GPS and save the location of detection coordinates. The system will generate reports for social distancing scores to show students’ records of their social distancing practice. The risk of the detected device is categorised based on the distance between user coordinates. The closer the device to the students, the higher the risk and shall be able to get detection details sent by GPS sensors. The system will send notifications to the students’ devices to warn them about their surroundings. Conclusively, the findings from this work are described as follows; the system is able to generate a social distancing report score based on the detection log to provide statistics to UMP students on their social distancing practices.
Thus, the social distancing awareness has been increased. The proposed system was found to be a useful application for the social distancing detection in order to ensure that one of the SOPs during the COVID-19 pandemics is performed by students.

LIVE COURIER TRACKING AND DELIVERY SYSTEM

Live tracking courier offers the ability of real-time tracking of vehicles to identify current locations of customers packages and
parcels when postal courier is on delivery duty. Tracking and tracing technologies are widely used nowadays for some purposes. This study will focus on the live tracking and delivery system application for the purpose of efficiency issues in the delivery system. To enhance the customer satisfactions towards the delivery services, this system can be one of the solutions. Thelocation in the system is real time and using tracker devices to detect the live locations. There are few related works that have been discussed, which are GPSWOX, DeTrack and Grap apps that come with similarity of function for this proposed project. Hence, this proposed study designs a mobile app to evaluate the live tracking system based on hardware and software specifications. The targeted audience just need an Android device that will be used for this proposed project development. The software specifications for this proposed project are related with mobile app development, in which Java platform and Android platform will be used for software implementation and testing. The expected outcome for this development is based on the interface that have been designed for early proposed design and fulfilled the expectation results of implementation.

AUTOMATED ATTENDANCE SYSTEM USING FACE RECOGNITION

Attendance is compulsory in every school or university for keeping a record of the student attending the class. The biometric
is applied in the system proposed, which uses face recognition for ease of attendance taking. The automated attendance system uses the proposed face recognition to overcome the weaknesses of manual and traditional attendance systems that cause learning time to be delayed, handwriting that confuses the lecturer and also the concentration of the student to be affected. This paper aims to identify the method used for detection and recognition to develop and evaluate the system. Therefore, the Viola-Jones algorithm is used in detection of student faces and Local Binary Pattern Histogram is used for recognition when it compares the student face with the images in the database. The system flow starts with capturing the image of the student in class, detecting their faces, processing the image for a better image and then extracting the feature. The results have shown the accuracy of face detection is more than 90% because some of the faces cannot be detected due to the different angles, while the accuracy for face recognition varies between 18% to 80% due to the different numbers of images trained for each person.

UNMANNED GROUND VEHICLE WITH INTEGRATION OF ROBOTIC ARM AND OTHER FEATURES

Many academics from across the world are working to reduce the epidemic effect by using robots and drones. The worst thing was after the face mask rule took effect on 1 August, 2020. In Malaysia, millions of contaminated face masks pose a deadly
hazard for humans and wildlife. Besides that, there are many Unmanned Ground vehicles (UGV) equipped with a manipulator
nowadays, but the main issue was the lack of stability in picking and placing objects. UGV plays an important role as the equipment that can reduce the risk of infection to cleaners to reduce COVID-19 for disposal. In addition, another aim of this
research is to define the generalised coordinates for the robot arm. Thus, UGV had been developed by using hardware and software requirements. In terms of hardware, the robotic arm consists of 4 DC servo motors to control the movement of the robotic arm and 1 DC Servo motor to control the movement of the gripper. Besides that, the rocker boogie consists of 6 DC motors that had been switched by using a dual H- Bridge and controlled by ArduinoMega. In terms of software, it used Robo Analyser software to identify the value of position and orientation of each joint correctly, as all these values needed to be used by the controller to tackle stability issues for further research. As a result, this project has novelties that reduced the risk of personnel death by making the disposal process more reliable than the current way, and the safety of the authorities can be improved. Finally, the End Effector position was also successfully retrieved by using the DenavitHartenberg method and Forward Kinematic Analysis.

IMPACT OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON ECOMMERCE AND ONLINE SHOPPING BEHAVIOUR AMONG STUDENTS OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION (HEI)

The trend of online shopping has increasingly replaced offline shopping, even nowadays, due to how rapid the growth is currently. Being introduced as a new type of buying pattern, Ecommerce has been adopted on a global scale by businesses nowadays, aiming to reach more online consumers throughout the world. Nevertheless, this shopping method is still active in the local community, especially for the twenties that show high reliance on it. It can be seen from the increasing rate of online transactions made by university students. This study mainly aims to study the relationship between online shopping via e-commerce and higher education institutions (HEI) students’ behaviours as to learn more about the impact of online shopping behaviours,. Thus, a questionnaire survey as research design is applied and distributed among university students who are currently pursuing their studies at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) Pahang Branch, Malaysia (as a case study for this research work). The questionnaire consists of two parts, Part A is the demographic information with six questions and Part B is online shopping-related questions with a total of 18 questions measured with 5-Likert-scale. Among these HEI students who were the sample of this study, the questionnaires distributed were considered valid to be analysed and proved the hypothesis. All the data collected were then analysed using GNU PSPP Version 3. Afterward, the Bivariate Correlation is implemented to analyse data for hypothesis testing. The findings of this study have analysed and revealed the weak correlation between the demographic information (gender, age, race, family income and employment status) and online shopping factors. However, the online shopping factor does greatly impact the consumers’ shopping behaviours and shopping impacts, implying the more convenient the e-commerce platform, the more acceptable the ecommerce platform among consumers, which has shown the positive impact of shopping behaviour during COVID-19 pandemic.

IDENTIFICATION OF EXCESSIVE SCREEN TIME IN LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The shift to fully online learning in higher education due to COVID-19 pandemic has caused the increase of screen-based activities, including learning engagement in the learning management system (LMS). As a result, they may experience excessive screen time (EST). While many studies on screen time adopt a self-report or survey approach, there is lack of attention
by scholars in identifying EST based on actual online learning engagement in higher education. Therefore, this study adopted educational data mining (EDM) with box-plot visualisation to identify outliers as indicators of excessive user screen time. The findings show that there are more than 10% of students and instructors who are classified as EST users. To conclude, this
study has shed light for higher education on the call for a new policy, quality standard and guideline on how healthy online
learning engagement should be effectively monitored to mitigate associated risks with EST towards sustainable development goals.

LEVERAGING SOCIAL MEDIA DATA FOR COVID-19 STUDIES

Nowadays, social media networks have become widely preferred sources of information. Especially during the time of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, social media has been one of the most used platforms to get the latest news and
information related to COVID-19. Social media is popular because it offers free access to its registered users and allows them
to do posting, disseminate information and respond to others’ postings. With almost 4.6 billion social media users worldwide, it
is not surprising that the significant amount of information shared through these platforms could affect how people perceive and
cope with the pandemic that we are facing right now. With decent use, social media can be a beneficial digital tool to spread reliable news and public awareness for patients, clinicians and society. Specifically, this chapter describes linguistic, visual and
emotional indicators expressed in user disclosures. Thus, in this chapter, the related studies of social media platforms' usage during the COVID-19 pandemic are explored and discussed in detail. This chapter also categorises social media data used, and
introduces different deployed machine learning, feature engineering, natural language processing, survey methods, and
outlines directions for future research.

Teori pengurusan adalah konsep yang merangkumi strategi pengurusan yang disarankan sebagai panduan untuk dilaksanakan baik dalam organisasi, mahupun dalam menjalankan penyelidikan. Ia juga menerangkan sesuatu fenomena yang kemudiannya dikembangkan untuk dijadikan perancangan yang strategik untuk menggerakkan sumber manusia dan kewangan agar mencapai objektif organisasi. Evolusi teori pengurusan bermula lebih 100 tahun yang lalu. Sejak sekian lama, ahli teori telah meneliti bentuk pengurusan yang paling sesuai untuk persekitaran kerja yang berbeza. Di sinilah teori pengurusan dimainkan. Walaupun beberapa teori ini dikembangkan sejak berabad lalu, mereka masih menyediakan kerangka kerja yang stabil untuk menjalankan perniagaan. Pengurusan juga termasuk menyimpan fakta dan maklumat untuk kegunaan kemudian atau untuk orang lain dalam organisasi. Fungsi pengurusan tidak terhad kepada pengurus dan penyelia. Tiap-tiap anggota organisasi mempunyai pengurusan dan pelaporan beberapa fungsi sebagai sebahagian daripada tugas mereka untuk memberi pengetahuan yang menyeluruh tentang falsafah pengurusan dan keusahawanan. Maka, buku ini akan mengetengahkan kajian empirikal di Malaysia yang menerapkan teori-teori dalam pengurusan. Kandungan ini sesuai untuk para pelajar prasiswazah dan pascasiswazah, serta pembaca umum yang ingin mendalami secara kritis dalam bidang pengurusan. Buku ini juga mengkhususkan kepada para pengurus. Salah satu sebab mengapa pengurus harus berminat dalam teori pengurusan pembelajaran adalah kerana ia membantu memaksimumkan produktiviti mereka. Ini dapat dimanfaatkan dengan mengaplikasi teori agar dapat mengurangkan risiko kerugian dalam pelaburan strategi pemasaran atau dalam pelaburan dalam latihan pekerjanya

VARIATION OF LIGHT ATTENUATION OF SEAGRASS HABITAT IN PENINSULAR MALAYSIA FROM SATELLITE-BASED ESTIMATION

Light deprivation into the water column depends on the water
clarity. Seagrass habitat is sparsely identified along the coastal
area of Peninsular Malaysia. Seagrass density is affected by the
amount of attenuated light into the water column, as light is
essentially used for the growing process. Water along the west
coast is more turbid than the south and east coast of Peninsular
Malaysia. Blue spectral band (450 nm−510 nm) of Landsat 7
ETM+ satellite image that has strong penetrative power and red
band (640 nm−670 nm) that is sensitive to subtle changes on
seafloor features are useful to estimate variability of light
penetration. A set of sampling points for both spectral bands was
plotted with coastal depth. It is found that the east coast has 25%
higher light penetration compared to south and west coastal
regions. This condition is favourable for seagrass habitat.
However, low light in deeper sea bottom and strong waves from
South China Sea are among limitations

This book shares human stress identification and measurement using human biological signals such as human brainwaves. ASSESSING THE PERFORMANCE OF VARIOUS ON-SITE DETENTION POND DESIGN METHODS BASED ON MSMA 2 GUIDELINES

Flash flood and monsoon flood are the common disasters caused by improper storm water management. Hence, on-site detention plays an indispensable role in the storm water management to reduce the probability of flood occurrences. The design method adopted determines the cost-effectiveness and usefulness of the designed on-site detention facility. In this study, on-site detention facility of three developments were analysed using two methods: the Simplified Method and the Modified Puls Method. It was found that Modified Puls Method is the more economical method compared to the Simplified Method. Moreover, the accuracy of the on-site detention system has affected the magnitude of rainfall intensity corresponding to various storm duration and ARI (Average Recurrence Index). The IDF (Rainfall Intensity- Duration-Frequency) curves provided in MSMA 2 (Urban Storm water Management Manual for Malaysia 2nd Edition) was not up to the current year. Thus, IDF curves were developed for the rainfall stations of each development data using the Arithmetic Mean Method and followed by mass curve analysis to check the filled rainfall data consistency.

FABRICATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF POLYLACTIC ACID AND NATURAL RUBBER BLEND BIOPLASTICS FOR ORGANIC FERTILISER PACKAGING

The global fertiliser market is huge, and their packaging is
typically made from synthetic polymers that are not sustainable
and environmentally friendly. In view of this, the goal of this study
is to produce biodegradable plastic made of polylactic acid (PLA)
and natural rubber (NR) for fertiliser packaging. The bioplastic
was prepared by blending PLA and NR via solvent-casting
technique. The bioplastics were then characterised based on
morphological, mechanical, thermal resistance, water absorption
and degradation properties. Based on the morphological analysis,
a larger NR agglomeration was detected as the concentration of
NR increased from 0.5 to 1.5 wt% in the PLA/NR mixtures. This
could be the reason for the bioplastic to break easily, due to the
weak spot on the agglomeration area. Nevertheless, the addition
of NR enhances the melting point, water absorption and
biodegradability of the PLA/NR bioplastics, which are important
features for sustainable packaging.

PERFORMANCE CONCRETE CONTAINING COAL BOTTOM ASH ON THE STRENGTH PROPERTIES UNDER ELEVATED TEMPERATURE AND VARIOUS COOLING METHOD

In recent years, excessive quantities of industrial by-products dumped from coal-thermal power plants have resulted in environmental contamination and landfills. Recycling industrial waste will help to minimise the consumption of cement in concrete. Hence, carbon dioxide emission from cement production can be reduced simultaneously. The current trend in the construction industry has also highlighted the use of silica-rich supplementary cementitious materials from industrial wastes in concrete production. Numerous studies have also validated the properties of these potential waste materials. Yet, there is less information on coal bottom ash (CBA) performance in concrete exposed to elevated temperature as partial cement replacement. Therefore, this study was done to investigate the strength performance of CBA subjected to elevated temperature with a different cooling method. Several tests were conducted to examine the performance of CBA concrete at elevated temperatures of 200o C, 400o C and 600o C; compressive strength, visual appearances and mass loss. The test of concrete specimens with a replacement proportion of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% is measured and compared with those of the control concrete specimens. Replacement level of 5% with CBA had shown comparable strength value with the control specimen, even after the elevated temperature up to 600o C. In addition, the characteristics of CBA particles having high water absorption properties have strongly influenced the overall strength performance in concrete. Therefore, it is strongly suggested to reduce the particle size of CBA before being utilised in concrete.

LOW FLOW FREQUENCY ANALYSIS FOR BUKIT KENAU STREAMFLOW STATION IN KUANTAN RIVER BASIN

Low flow during dry season could lead to some negative impacts on the river ecosystem. Most of the river low flow data applications have been used in designing public water supply, irrigation schemes and energy production. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the low flow frequency analysis for Kuantan River at Bukit Kenau streamflow station using Weibull and Gringorten formulas. Frequency analysis is carried out using the frequency factor method to determine the annual minimum flow. The average recurrence interval (ARI) of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100-year were determined based on the 22 years of historical streamflow data. This study illustrates the annual of 1-, 4-, 7- and 30-day of duration used in the analysis of low flow characteristics. Therefore, the outcome from this study could be used in the future for any project related to the low flow information in Kuantan River Basin.

RETROFITTING OF DISSOLVED AIR FLOTATION TANK VIA AUTO SCRAPPER SYSTEM WITH LEVEL SENSOR

A dissolved air flotation tank requires retrofitting to address technical problems such as inefficient manual scrapper option. This study presents an analysis of retrofitting the auto scrapper system for the dissolved air flotation tank via ultrasonic level sensor installation. It promotes operation time and operation cost saving, prevents human mistakes, and simultaneously moves towards full automation technology. Wastewater quality is improved by producing an optimal solid-liquid separation at the dissolved air floatation tank. The research methodology covers the comparative analysis of the findings before and after the dissolved air floatation retrofitting along with the observation on site. Cost analysis has been developed to identify the level of sensor installation potential and the impact of the sensor on the dissolved air floatation auto scrapper system. The amount of chemical oxygen demand and total suspended solids are significantly lower after the retrofitting. Cost-saving from this project is induced by labour cost to maintain the monthly dissolved air floatation system and water cost-saving using clean final discharge water. Total annualised cost-saving is at RM 22,380/year. Meanwhile, the investment return was calculated for 2.4 months, indicating a shorter period to recover investment and attain a profit.

ESTIMATION MODEL OF COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE CONTAINING EGGSHELL AND TIRE CRUMB

Recycling eggshell waste in concrete materials gives many benefits to minimising the cement demand, conserving natural limestone and recycling waste aggregate. This study is to identify the compressive strength and slump height of the concrete consisting of eggshell and tire crumb by using regression analysis in Excel and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) through Minitab. The method used in strength assessment of concrete is by combining more than one Non-destructive Test (NDT) test, which is Ultra Pulse Velocity (UPV) and rebound hammer (RH). The combination of UPV and RH test results were established with the percentage of eggshell, and tire crumb as partial replacement of cement and sand was used to estimate the compressive strength at 7 days and 28 days. Results had revealed that RSM has the lowest value of root-mean-square error (RMSE), which is 0.6854 for 7 days compressive strength, 1.6613 for 28 days compressive strength and 3.6433 for slump height. The ideal content of eggshell powder and tire crumb that created the maximum compressive strength of concrete is 10% and 0%, respectively, with 6.5 km/s of UPV and 42.1 number of RH, according to this study. The additional percentage of eggshell powder replacement up to 15% has reduced concrete compressive strength. A selected estimation model for compressive strength and slump height can create analysis reduction in the number of experiments, thus reducing the optimisation cost, besides reducing the environmental impact due to uncontrollable waste in landfills.

BIOGAS PRODUCTION THROUGH ANAEROBIC CO-DIGESTION OF PALM OIL MILL EFFLUENT WITH CATTLE MANURE

One of the greatest alternatives to produce biogas is combining
palm oil mill effluent (POME) with cattle manure (CM). The
operation was carried out at a mesophilic (37°C) temperature and
semi-continuously mixed with the stirrer in this study. The
electrical energy was utilised at mixing ratios of POME and CM
of 25:75, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40 and 75:25. This operation produced
a maximum of 1,567 mL of biogas, with a methane content of
64.13 %. The best-preferred method for obtaining biogas was a
50:50 mixing ratio of POME and CM at a mesophilic temperature
(37°C). A successful economic effect study of a biogas plant has
also been anticipated. Since this technology is widely used, the
planned biogas facility looks to be economically viable, with a
five-year payback period on the original expenditure. In
conclusion, the current research presents a comprehensive
technique for combining many factors in order to increase the
biogas output.

QUALITY AND QUALITY STANDARDS IN CONSTRUCTION: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

One of the customers’ satisfactory elements identified in construction is quality, since the construction industry shifted from production-orientated management to customer-orientated management. However, several issues are identified as a hindrance to achieve overall quality and can be caused by low- quality construction materials and non-compliance to the standards. Therefore, before any further strategies to improve the quality of construction are determined, it is crucial to establish the fundamental knowledge on quality and its relevant applicable aspects in the construction industry. Hence, this paper seeks the definition of quality and quality standards by using the systematic review based on six-level of procedures. Based on the sources gathered, quality can be defined as the foreseeable degree of standardisation and reliability with quality standard suitable to the client's preference and approval, whereas quality standards is defined as to offer a reference in ensuring all construction activities comply to the adequate specifications set by the authorised bodies. The definitions found provide practical implications for future work related to quality and project specification.

GASIFICATION PERFORMANCE OF SUBBITUMINOUS COAL WITH SAWDUST AND SAWDUST PELLET

Utilisation of fossil fuel and biomass for power generation systems aids in minimising CO2 emission and fossil fuel
consumption, resulting in clean energy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the gasification performance of sub-bituminous coal (CL) with raw biomass; sawdust (SD) and pelletised biomass; sawdust pellet (SDP). Gasification was carried out in a lab-scale air-blown downdraft gasifier at a 1:1 mass ratio of CL with SD and SDP at a fixed condition of gasification temperature at 750 °C and equivalence ratio (ER) of 0.25. The gasification output was analysed in terms of syngas composition: hydrogen (H2), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and methane (CH4), and the gasification performance: the calorific value of the syngas (CVsyngas), gasification efficiency (XGE) and carbon conversion efficiency (XCC). It was found out that CL/SDP produces high syngas composition than CL/SD, with a difference of 20%, 22%, 33% and 60% for H2, CO, CH4 and CO2, respectively. In addition, the CL/SDP outperformed the gasification performance for the CVsyngas, XGE and XCC at 4.958 MJ/Nm3, 25% and 34%,
respectively. Therefore, this study provides the preliminary investigation into mixing the pelletised biomass with fossil fuel to
improve the syngas composition and gasification performance while also tackling the biomass limitations.

PROPERTIES OF SOFT SOIL CONTAINING OUTER LAYER FACE MASK

In construction, soft clay soil is continuously being the biggest concern for engineer. It is classified as problematic soil because of its weak properties and it usually does not meet the construction requirement due to excessive settlement. In this research, the improvement of soft clay soil is made by adding a small percentage of the waste generated from face mask. By doing this, it is hoped to improve the soil’s properties and preserve the environment by reducing the abundant waste. Several laboratory tests (particle size test, soil consistency test, standard Proctor test and unconfined compression test) were conducted to determine the soil properties. The outer layer face mask (OLFM), which was cut in pieces, was added in the amount of 0.25 %, 0.5 % and 1 % of the total volume. The results show that the mixture of 1 % of the outer layer face mask’s into the soft clay soil is able to increase the soil’s shear strength by 2.8 times.

APPLICATION OF ANALYTIC HIERARCHY PROCESS (AHP) FOR SELECTING STORMWATER BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

Green roof and rain garden are the Best Management Practices
(BMPs) that have limited applicability in Malaysia. With the aim
to promote their usability, this paper presents the application of
the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to select the best type of
these two BMPs. The methodology used is twofold. First, the
feedback on factors influencing the selection of the BMPs was
collected, while in the second stage, respondents were asked to
evaluate the BMP’s alternatives using AHP pairwise comparison
questionnaire. Construction cost is the most influencing factor in
the selection of green roof, with a total priority weight of 0.5013,
followed by the lack of awareness and knowledge (0.1152), and
maintenance complexity (0.0951). Meanwhile, the selection of
rain garden is mainly influenced by the climatic factor (0.2718),
followed by the structural criteria (0.1564) and additional cost
(0.1547). An intensive green roof and permeable rain garden are
selected as the most appropriate type for Malaysian
implementation with composite priorities of 0.848 and 0.752,
respectively.

DERIVATION OF ROAD CONDITION INDEX USING RQLASSIC FOR JALAN SUNGAI BARU, PERAK, AND JALAN SEBALIK, SELANGOR

Access roads are being constructed to facilitate accessibility of
local communities, and these roads are the common features in a
road network that are often not maintained well and eventually
becoming substandard in term of the quality, although they still
function as access roads. Therefore, considering the benefits of
road, it is essential that the relative quality to be prioritised
through effective maintenance programme can be discovered
through simple and do able Road Condition Index study called
Road Quality (RQLASSIC) by CIDB. For the study, two access
roads, namely Jalan Sungai Baru in Perak and Jalan Sebalik in
Selangor had been chosen. The roads were divided into 10 equal
sections throughout a selected 1 km section, and type of defects
were sampled and the results were evaluated as per RQLLASIC
procedures. The study found that both sample road sections were
in poor RCI of 47% for Sungai Baru and 59% for Jalan Sebalik.
Both sample roads worst RCI were the roadside drains at 6.3%
and 12%, respectively. Budget for maintenance was determined
based on the RCI for the consideration of the relevant authorities

COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE USING ALUMINIUM SOFT DRINK CAN AS PARTIAL COARSE AGGREGATE REPLACEMENT

This paper presents the study on compressive strength of concrete
by incorporating 5% and 10% of waste aluminium soft drink can
(ASDC) as partial replacement of coarse aggregate. Using
standard mix design, Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete
was made to have a target mean strength of 30 N/mm2
. The size
for concrete cubes designed is 100 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm. The
slump test result shows that the ASDC partial replacement of
coarse aggregate by weight increases the workability of fresh
concrete. The compressive test has shown that 5 % of ASDC
aggregate gives the highest strength, 36.2 MPa, compared to 10%
with 32.1 MPa.

FACTORS AFFECTING CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTIVITY: COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN WORKER’S NATIONALITY

There are many factors that affect construction productivity based on the worker's background. This study assesses the five factors affecting construction productivity at a construction site in Kuala Lumpur within the worker’s nationalities. In 2019, a survey was distributed to a sample of 60 construction workers with various backgrounds. Descriptive analysis shows that respondents are perceived as moderately, that manpower factors (Mean score = 2.88, S.D. = 0.54), external factors (Mean score = 3.32, S.D. = 0.59), communication factors (Mean score = 3.23, S.D. = 0.63), resources factors (Mean score = 3.31, S.D. = 0.58) and miscellaneous factors (Mean score = 3.29, S.D. = 0.70) affect construction productivity. Moreover, perception of the four factors (manpower, external, communication and resources) affecting construction productivity had a significant difference between Malaysian and non-Malaysian workers (P<0.05). Therefore, advancement should focus on those four factors to nurture better delivery of construction work; thus, increasing the productivity among workers from different nationalities.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES OF OIL AND GAS CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGERS IN MALAYSIA

The oil and gas business is one of the most important and largest industries in the world. Despite the industry's large economic
contribution, the output of major projects has not met expectations, particularly with regard to cost and schedule goals.
project managers should possess sufficient technical knowledge and skill to perform their jobs, especially in the oil and gas
industry. This paper aims to assess the level of technical competencies for oil and gas construction project managers in
Malaysia. Data were collected from 75 respondents from different organisations that are involved with oil and gas construction
projects in Malaysia by using a questionnaire. The current level of construction project managers in the oil and gas construction in
Malaysia are mostly competent and have the most satisfied rating in determining appropriate construction methods, followed by
project scheduling, directing and monitoring the project's progress. Hopefully, this study can help the industry sector,
especially in oil and gas, to find competent technical PMs to ensure the project can be delivered well.

SIMULATION STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF ECCENTRICITY LOAD ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF PRECAST WALL PANEL IN TERMS OF STRESS DISTRIBUTION AND LATERAL DISPLACEMENT

This research studies on behaviour precast wall loaded with a different eccentricity of load using finite element method. Seven (7) models of the wall were developed and analysed using ABAQUS software. All samples are designed with a dimension of 3000 mm height x 3000 mm length and 150 mm thickness by using the main material, which is reinforced concrete. Steel bar reinforcement for all model precast walls was provided with T10-200 in the vertical section and T10-300 in the horizontal section. The concrete grade used for the design of the precast wall in this study is the C35 with a longitudinal steel support of deformed steel reinforcement bars with a nominal yield strength of 460 MPa and for the mild steel is of 250 MPa. The study shows the decrease in deformation shape curve when the eccentricity value increases up to 10 mm. The study also reveals no significant effect on stress distribution regarding the location of stress under different eccentricities of load.

ASSESSING PEDESTRIAN FACILITIES FOR THE BLIND IN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT OF AN EMERGING ECONOMY

In highlighting the sustainable urban environment of an emerging economy, walkability becomes a key trait. The criteria that can improve walkability in urban areas are the provision and ease of access to pedestrian facilities for everyone, including people with disabilities (PWDs). The mobility of PWDs in urban areas is very challenging, as they face physical, cultural and social barriers that hinder their participation in society. In line with this concern, this study intends to assess the current provision and accessibility aspect of pedestrian facilities for the blind in Kuantan city by using on-site assessment. The findings reported that the pedestrian facilities for the blind in Kuantan city are lacking in the provision and not entirely accessible, specifically on walkway or sidewalk, tactile block, pedestrian crossing, handrail, and ramp. The barriers underlined in the findings may act as a direction for local authorities and industry to improve the pedestrian facilities for the blind, and consequently, will be equally beneficial for all pedestrians.

IMPACT OF REGULATIONS ON CONSTRUCTION LABOUR PRODUCTIVITY

Labour productivity in the construction industry has significantly declined. Therefore, there is a need to assess construction labour productivity in the present day. Regulation is known as one of the factors that may directly affect productivity. This study aims to find the impact of different regulations on construction labour productivity. Data were collected through individual interview sessions with twelve (12) construction industry practitioners from contractor, consultant and client stakeholders to achieve that objective. Then, the collected data were analysed using the thematic analysis technique. The results show that regulations can positively and negatively impact construction labour productivity from four aspects: time, cost, processes and human resources. Furthermore, several types of challenges can emerge due to regulations: time constraints, bureaucracy, management, human resources demand, professionalism and etiquette. This study contributes to the construction body of knowledge by exploring the impact of regulations on construction labour productivity. Industry practitioners and policymakers can use this study as a reference to maximise construction labour productivity.

SEWAGE TREATMENT PERFORMANCE OF CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS USING VETIVERIA ZIZANIOIDES

Constructed wetlands are one of the alternative treatments for treating domestic wastewater since they are low-energy, low-maintenance and environmentally friendly. The purpose of this research was to see if the vetiveria zizaniodes plant could be used to eliminate pollution from a created wetland. Two alternative flow systems were used in the study, a 5-day retention period and no retention time flow system. In each cell of the constructed wetlands, vetiveria zizanoides were planted in different populations. The systems' effectiveness in minimising oil and grease (O&G) concentrations, total suspended solid (TSS), and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) was measured by means of dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH, respectively. The analysis indicates that using vetiveria zizanioides in the artificial wetland may minimise near to 53.08 % BOD and 50.75 % O&G for 60 days of treatment for a 5-day retention duration. Meanwhile, the wetland was possible to reduce 61.92 % TSS on day 60 at zero hydraulic retention time (HRT) in that same 60 days of treatment. The vetiveria zizanioides plant was discovered to play a substantial role in eliminating BOD, TSS, and O&G during HRT as a result of the findings.

THE MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE AND MORPHOLOGY OF COAL WASTE BRICK

Brick is one of the most important materials for building
construction. Brick had been used for non-loading structure and
need to be made from durable materials. The common materials
used for brick are clay, sand and cement. However, the issue of
depletion of natural resources has become a major concern
nowadays. On the other hand, waste materials generated from coal
power plants have been studied by many researchers and proven
to be suitable as one of the brick materials. This waste is
abundantly available in landfills without any profit. Therefore,
this paper focuses on the development of coal bottom ash brick in
term of mechanical performance. The density, compressive
strength and water absorption capabilities of the coal bottom ash
bricks have been investigated at 7, 14 and 28 days of curing. The
findings revealed that bricks made of coal bottom ash had a low
density while maintaining its compressive strength. In conclusion,
the use of coal bottom ash in brick manufacturing has a lot of
potentials to be used in industry.

ESTIMATION OF HOURLY AND DAILY RAINFALL INTENSITY USING PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION IN KEMAMAN

Malaysia has experienced uttermost rainfall events during the monsoon seasons that last for several hours and consequently lead to flash floods. This study was located at Kemaman, Terengganu. Annual maximum (AM) hourly and daily rainfall data at seven stations were collected from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), and the probability distributions are analysed for these set of data. This study aims to estimate the AM hourly and daily rainfall intensity for selected Average Recurrence Interval (ARI) using Log-Pearson Type III (LPIII) distribution and Gumbel distribution. In this study, the goodness of fit test for the distribution is tested using Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test and Anderson-Darling (AD) test. Based on the output generated, LPIII distribution is proven to be the most appropriate probability distribution function for AM hourly and daily rainfall for Kemaman. The estimated extreme rainfall intensity for various ARIs can be used as the basic inputs in hydrologic design.

DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF SUBMERGED SEAGRASS TOTAL ABOVEGROUND BIOMASS CHANGES IN TINGGI ISLAND, JOHOR USING REMOTE SENSING DATA

Tinggi Island area is gazetted as Johor Marine Park while unpredictable natural phenomenon claimed as a primary threat
that caused reduction of submerged seagrass total aboveground biomass (SSTAGB). This study aims to (a) detect and quantify
SSTAGB in clear water of the Tinggi Island area using satellite data, and (b) assess SSTAGB changes in 2009 and 2014.
Algorithm of Bottom Reflectance Index is implemented on Landsat 8 OLI image of 2009 and 2014 to detect and study spatial
distribution of multi-species submerged seagrass. Field data sampling was conducted to validate the classified satellite image.
A series of quadrat sampling of 0.5mx0.5m was used to quantify ground-based SSTAGB. The result found that the seagrass area
and SSTAGB around the island are rigid and remarkably consistent over a 5-year interval. A strong association between
ground-based SSTAGB and satellite-based SSTAGB shows that the BRI model is significantly satisfied to be implemented on
moderate resolution of satellite data with overall accuracy of >70% and >0.65 of kappa statistic.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH AND VOID CONTENT OF PORTLAND CEMENT PERVIOUS CONCRETE- OKPS USING RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY

Nowadays, in Malaysia, there are flooding issues during heavy rain. The drainage system is not capable to smoothly manage the wastewater. This is caused by the increase in infrastructure and construction. It was recommended to use pervious concrete (PC) as an alternative for this issue. However, PC is not environmentalfriendly due to the presence of non-renewable material in its production. The use of oil palm kernel shells in PC is considered the best alternative. A series of PC-OPKS mixes were designed up to 20% levels of replacement of OPKS to Portland cement PC. It was found that OPKS10 enhanced the strength but was lower than the control PC. The results also exhibited that PC-OPKS significantly and positively affect the void content. Based on RSM analysis, the inclusion of OPKS in PC has a strong relationship with strength and void content. Obviously, PC-OPKS features a lower compressive strength but greater void content when compared to PC alone.

INVESTIGATION ON THE EFFECT OF REPRESENTATIVE CONCENTRATION PATHWAYS (RCPs) TO THE CLIMATE RESEARCH: CASE STUDY AT MALAYSIA

This study assesses the role of RCPs as an important development of climate research. RCP presents the specific radiation forcing as possible scenarios that would lead to the climate formulation known as RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. In recent years, the climate research in Malaysia were generated using Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) under the A1B scenario. However, these scenarios had been revised and AR5 was introduced since 2014 to overcome the weakness in the AR4. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to identify the effect of RCPs on climate generation and the best RCPs for each state in Malaysia based on a statistical climate model. The Statistical Downscaling Model (SDSM) was used as a climate driver to downscale the long-term local climates concerning the potential emission changes in the local weather. Results showed that 4 out of 10 states agreed that the RCP2.6 had a good correlation to the local climate with higher R (> 0.8) and lower %MAE (< 23%). This finding proved that RCPs play a main role in the long-term climate assessment.

BARRIERS TO AUGMENTED REALITY APPLICATION IN CONSTRUCTION: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY IN MALAYSIA

Malaysian construction industry is always labelled as ancient industry because of resistance to change or adopt new technology in their working process. The construction industry in Malaysia is slow in adopting new technology compared to other industries. Therefore, it has a bad reputation for producing good quality products, and complete within time frame and cost. These problems arose because of failures to effectively communicate among parties in the construction project due to the complexity of the construction project. In the era of digitalisation, the utilisation of new technology could help the construction industry overcome the issues of processing complex information. The usage of Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the approaches. AR technology has gained much attention in the construction industry on how it potentially helps solve common problems in construction. AR integrates digital information with a real-time user environment to resolve communication issues in complex projects. Besides that, AR can minimise 2D drawing by digitally visualising the end product of a construction project. However, despite all the benefits AR can offer, the implementation of AR in Malaysian construction is still lagging. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the factors hindering the application of AR in Malaysian construction industry. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted to obtain the possible hindering factors in implementing AR among Malaysian construction companies. Relative Importance Indices (RII) were utilised to analyse the data. In this study, the questionnaires were distributed via email to 260 potential respondents and only 105 responded, which represents 40% of the response rate. From the analysis, it was revealed that the main factors that could hinder the AR implementation are: lack of knowledge about AR, lack of training on AR application, higher cost in investing AR technology and infrastructure, and absence of push from government and clients. In conclusion, to enable the progressive use of the technology, it is important to address the actual factors hindering the implementation of AR in Malaysian construction. At the same time, every party in the construction industry should play a role in promoting the use of AR in their construction project.

SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC PANEL COMPACT BIN: A PRELIMINARY SUSTAINABILITY ASSESSMENT IN UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PAHANG

Globally, waste keeps increasing every year due to several factors. Thus, managing this waste will be considered a major economic and environmental challenge. The idea of developing the compact solar energy bin with an intelligent system could reduce the burden to the environment, as well as the cost associated with waste collection activity. The built-in system with an Arduino microcontroller was applied to monitor the level of fullness and triggered automatic compacting. This may increase the capacity of the bin up to 5 times. The results indicate that transportation costs could be reduced by at least 30% and Global Warming Potential impact decreased from 18.5 tonnes to 6.2 tonnes annually. The Solar Photovoltaic Panel Compact Bin has the potential to support not only waste management, but has an edge in the economy and the environment.

WORKABILITY AND COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE CONTAINING CRUSHED PALM OIL CLINKER AS PARTIAL FINE AGGREGATE REPLACEMENT

Growing demand for river sand supply to cater to the need of
expanding concrete industry has a negative impact on the river
environment when the mining activity is carried out
uncontrollably. Palm Oil Clinker (POC) is a waste material
generated from the palm oil industry, which is thrown as
environmental polluting waste. This experimental study aims to
investigate the effect of POC as partial fine aggregate replacement
material on the workability, compressive strength and water
absorption of concrete. A total of six concrete mixes containing
0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% POC as partial fine aggregate
replacement were prepared. All specimens were subjected to
water curing until the testing date. Compressive strength and
water absorption tests were conducted at 28 days. Incorporation
of 20% POC is able to produce concrete with targeted
compressive strength. Success in utilising POC as partial fine
aggregate replacement in concrete will reduce waste thrown at
dumpsites.

STRATEGIES FOR MEASURING PROGRESS AND PRODUCTIVITY IN MODEL-BASED CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Nowadays, model-based technologies have been developed to change the conventional manual progress in measuring progress and productivity in projects management. However, the current literature lacks the proper strategies in developing a model-based construction projects. This study provides the potential strategy to measure progress using model-based technology. A semi- structured interview method was used to get information from industry practitioners. The thematic analysis has been implemented to classify each information into themes. The findings of this study show that four common strategies can be used to measure progress in model-based construction. The strategies are 1) image capturing, 2) management software, 3) modelling and simulation, and 4) report and documentation. Meanwhile, the challenge to implement the method to measure progress in Model-Based Construction Projects is broadly divided into two themes: 1) people and 2) instruments. Hopefully, this study can provide information and strategies to measure progress and productivity in construction in model-based construction projects.

ASSESSMENT ON TRAFFIC NOISE POLLUTION AND TRAFFIC CHARACTERISTICS AT DIFFERENT TYPE OF TRAFFIC FLOW FACILITIES

Traffic noise pollution has become a worldwide issue and has
been in the rise due to the rapid development in the transportation
system. This paper provides an insight into the assessments of
traffic noise pollution and the traffic characteristics at different
type of traffic flow facilities (interrupted and uninterrupted). To
achieve this study, traffic characteristic parameters (traffic
volume, travel mean speed and heavy vehicles compositions)
were determined alongside the noise indices of A-weighted
equivalent continuous noise level at both types of flow facilities.
The findings revealed that traffic noise level at uninterrupted flow
facilities was relatively higher than interrupted flow, with a
differences about 10 dBA. It is also found that composition of
heavy vehicles was the most significant (p<0.05) to the noise
level. This study provides understanding on the influences of
traffic characteristics at different type of flow facilities towards
traffic noise level.

PRODUCTION OF BIOGAS VIA ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OF FOOD AND PLANT WASTES

Biogas is a clean energy that can substitute or reduce the usage of
liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas. However, the
availability of feedstock used for the production is a major
downside. In this study, a small-scale unit of biogas was produced
from food (vegetable and fruit wastes) and plant wastes via
anaerobic digestion (AD) reaction process. The reaction
parameters used in this study were the reaction condition and
retention time. The experiment was conducted for 14 days to test
the influence of reaction parameters towards the yield of biogas.
From the study, it was observed that the yield of biogas was higher
in a light AD condition (0.7470 ml/g) compared to the dark
condition (0.025 ml/g). Furthermore, as the retention time
increases, the yield of biogas also increases slightly. In addition,
the finding affirms the possibility of biogas production using a
mixture of food and plant wastes with further study is needed for
the parameter’s ranges used in the study

DIGITAL SLOPE MAPPING USING UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE (UAV)

This paper discusses the applications of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for slope mapping and its important parameters including perimeter, area and volume of four selected areas of slope A, slope B, slope C and slope D. Modern UAV is able to capture high quality images and convert them into a natural mapping output extracted from the commercial software such as Digital Surface Model (DSM) and Digital Orthophoto. Two locations in Kuantan Pahang were selected at Sungai Lembing and Politeknik Sultan Ahmad Shah ‘POLISAS’ for slope mapping analysis. The main interest of this study is to measure the perimeter, area and volume of selected study areas using a commercial software. In addition, this modern method of mapping was proven to be more effective than the traditional method in terms of less cost, can generate huge data entry in a brief time, low man power and no potential risk of hazardous effect to man. In conclusion, modern technology of UAV is an efficient way of mapping for geotechnical engineering. Slope mapping help researchers and engineers to obtain slope measurement within a short period of time compared to previous traditional method.

LATERITE SOIL AS NATURAL ADSORBENT TO REMOVE COLOUR IN THE WASTEWATER SAMPLE

This paper presents the removal of colour from a glove factory by
using laterite soil as a natural adsorbent and the results were
compared with the commercial activated carbon. Determinations
were done using laterite soil that had been modified into three
types of adsorbents, which are natural wash adsorbent, acid wash
10% and 40% adsorbent. Acid wash adsorbent is proven to be
more effective in removing colour concentration compared to the
natural wash adsorbent. By using natural wash adsorbent, the best
condition for colour removal was at a dosage of 1g with pH 4 and
contact time at 20 minutes, while acid wash 40% adsorbent needed
only 0.3g of dosage at pH 6 with contact time only 15 minutes.
This study shows that laterite soil can become one of the effective
natural adsorbents, since it can remove almost 100% of the colour
concentration in the water sample.

PRODUCT DESIGN OF SHELL AND TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER SYSTEM FOR EDUCATIONAL TRAINING KIT

Heat exchanger is the common device applied for heat transfer in thermodynamics, but the current commercial training package is complicated and limits the exploration by students. In this study, a complete shell and tube heat exchanger system was developed for educational purposes. The thermal efficiency of the system was examined by varying the flow rate and temperature. It was observed that the logarithmic mean temperature difference tends to decrease with the increase in inlet hot flow rate. Meanwhile, the effectiveness continues to decline as the inlet hot flow rate increases. The highest overall heat transfer (1.505 W/m2.K) was obtained when the flow rate was set as 10 LPM. It can be concluded that the higher the overall heat transfer coefficient, the lower the effectiveness of the heat exchanger.

EFFECT OF ELECTRODE ORIENTATION ON ELECTROCOAGULATION PERFORMANCE IN TREATMENT OF RESTAURANT WASTEWATER

Inappropriate selection of electrode orientation in an electrochemical cell is frequently the cause of the inability to treat wastewater effectively. The objective of this research is to study the effect of electrode orientation in an electrochemical cell in the treatment of restaurant wastewater using the electrocoagulation process. The electrocoagulation tests were carried out using vertical, horizontal anode on top and the horizontal anode at the
bottom for 120 minutes. It was found that the electrocoagulation process using vertical electrode orientation was more efficient among other orientations, and was able to remove 60.14% chemical oxygen demand, 68.23% biochemical oxygen demand and 83.05% total suspended solids. Conclusively, the vertical orientation is a promising method of electrocoagulation for restaurant wastewater treatment
